    Bhopal

Bhopal, in the centre of India, is also known as The City of Lakes. The two Bhoj lakes are old artificial lakes belonging to the basin of the Yamuna River, a tributary of the Ganges. The foundation of Bhopal is ascribed to the king Bhoja (1000-1055). His name was originally Bhojpal, from the sovereign’s name and the Indian word pal, meaning dam. The king created an artificial lake by blockading the course of the river with an earth dam and founded the city nearby. The long lake has now been lit with modern Neri products featuring a colour changing system as part of the Bhopal Smart City project, which has enhanced the heart of the city with colours and reflections on the water.
