We are very proud to share with you the images of our new installation in Rajpath, New Delhi. Rajpath, now officially called Kartavya Path, was built in 1911 by the British Imperial Government. When it was constructed, the street was called Kingsway in honour of King George V. The name repeated that of Kingsway in London, which had been opened in 1905. Kingsway was the ceremonial axis around which Delhi, the new capital of the British Indian Empire, was conceived. After the independence of India, Kingsway became Rajpath. Bordered by canals, lawns and rows of trees on both sides, Rajpath connects Rashtrapati Bhavan, Vijay Chowk, India Gate and the National War Memorial and is flanked by important Government offices and Parliament. It is one of the areas most visited by tourists in Delhi and is used for the Republic Day Parade and various other ceremonial occasions. To illuminate the great avenue, tall lampposts were chosen with a cast iron base and a large square lantern at the top. It is a typically English model with a base characterized by narrow horizontal grooves. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Central Public Works Department have just concluded one of the most significant projects of recent years in India. The entire area has been restructured to enable easy access by large numbers of people, both daily (especially in the evening) and during major events. Neri has designed, produced and supplied the lighting fixtures for Kartavya Path at Central Vista. The original lampposts were partly restored but also reproduced to extend their presence in areas where they were previously absent. The lanterns have been equipped with LED for increased efficiency, energy savings and enhanced lighting concept.
